LILONGWE, Malawi — The Malawi government is preparing to send its first group of 500 young workers to Israel for agricultural jobs, following a labor export agreement signed in April, writes Esther Banda.
Labour Commissioner Hlale Kelvin Nyangulu told the Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts that interviews were conducted nationwide on July 29, with successful candidates set to depart in August.
“According to the Memorandum of Understanding that the government signed with the State of Israel, we have to send 3,000 hardworking young Malawians,” Nyangulu said.
He added that selected workers will undergo pre-departure orientation.
Nyangulu emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability throughout the process.
Mark Botoman, chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, expressed satisfaction with the government’s procedures.
